Marci Vining, Lamar County Board of Education
Table 2 Thursday 8:30 - 3:30PM Capacity: 8
This showcase will demonstrate how Fourth grade students are using a virtual community to prevent and diffuse bullying in school. Students on the Bully Blocker team meet weekly to update the information and resources offered on the Ning. Resources include bullying information regarding causes, effects, types, and prevention. Students offer peer help with online discussion boards and private emails. They have also created a survey to determine where bullying takes place to help teachers better monitor these areas. Students are able to update the Ning at home since the source is web-based. This is a new adventure for the students of Lamar County, but already, we are seeing increased awareness and more students coming forward with problems in this area.
